Percuro supports Earth Day 2021

Percuro: In recognition of the 51st Earth Day, Percuro is demonstrating its commitment to help protect and enhance the world’s ecosystem through sustainability. Earth Day was established in 1970 and is celebrated annually on 22nd April, in a universal effort by uniting individuals and organisations to help raise awareness and support global environmental protection, in which recycling and sustainability plays a crucial role.

Percuro is leading the way through its sustainable alternative to traditional meat based pet foods.

According to an article published by the World Economic Forum1, red meat is responsible for up to a quarter of the world’s land-use greenhouse gas emissions, and with dog and cat food responsible for up to 20% of the world’s meat and fish. Percuro is reducing farming emissions through using sustainable insect protein in its dog food.

 As part of our drive for sustainability and a healthier world, our packaging is also 100% recyclable. Our boxes are made from FSC-certified, fully-recyclable cardboard, sourced from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social and economic benefits. Our bags are fully recyclable mono-material PE plastic, unlike many traditional pet food bags which have multiple layers of materials which cannot be separated and recycled.

The idea of Earth Day was conceived in 1969 following a devastating oil spill in Santa Barbara, California. In 1970, a teach in was announced by Senator Gaylord Nelson, that took place in college campuses across the United States, and Earth Day was created.

Fast forward to 1990 and the movement went global with over 200 million people mobilised and 141 countries participating in the movement, propelling environmental issues to the world stage. Today, Earth Day is recognised at the largest secular observance in the world as over a billion people join together to mark it as a day to change human behaviour and work to conserve our planet.
